WE DID IT!

Finally we made it! We are officially gardeners! I must admit I do kind of feel a sense of relief. I mean I've been thinking baout this all month. Where to plant? What To plant? How do I? So many questions. I wondered about so much; the cost, the location, what types of plants, whether to start seeds or buy plants, and the list goes on and on. But today we did it. We finally bit the bullet and got our first seed starter kit. And it is litterally just that. Our very first ever seed starter kit!

I chose the brand BURPEE to be the victim for this little experiment. I never want to say a brand doesn't work, but if it doesn't ...it won't be because of me. (lol) So sunday after church I took a little trip to ace, just to do a little browsing. Of course I found alot of things I liked, things I wanted, things I needed, and things I knew I was never going to get. But, what I did not  find out, was how to decide whether I should purchase or not. I looked at so many different plants. The Bonnie being my favorite, just because I previously had considered doing the cup planting method. (Solo vs Styrofoam cups), an idea I kicked around for a little bit before finally deciding to go ahead and start my own using a regular smegular old seed starting kit.

So, the Burpee 36 cell seed starter kit is pretty easy to use. It comes with of coarse; the green house lid,(which doesn't actually fit) a planter stand, a mat or piece of paper that absorbs water and  keeps the plants from going dry,(Provided you water them)the soil pellets and other pieces like the mixer stick and water tray. I was excited to get started, me, my water bottle and a camera to film and  my little experiment with my Youtube channel, and I was ready to go. By the way, the name of said channel, if you haven't noticed the huge video tittle above, is Keyandra. Tittled by name...Keyandra, that's me. Also... I could sure use a subscription or two if you don't mind. (just saying )It's real easy to do and doesn't cost you a thing. Try it out..

So anyway, setting the tray up wasn't as hard as I imagined and it was quite less difficult than I made it seem I'm sure. To my relief, I finished in no time. I think the longest process of all of it may have just been planting the seeds themselves. Only  3-5 minutes to enlarge the pellets, didn't seem that long, and breaking up the soil..was easy. Warm water for wetting, let the expansion happen, mix it up and get to it. Now that's what took so long, breaking up the soil..that and going back and forth to get water. Which due to time constraints has been shortened to just long enough for the view so you won't really notice. Worrying about how many seeds I should place in each cell was also getting to me a little. Sure the package says 2-3..but with so many, why not add a few more? I did, I added a few more to each. How do you think that's going to work out. Will they grow? will they be stunted due to over crowding? Will plants grow in anyway, nice and full, with a thick chunky stalk which would be good for stability? That's what I hope for. Truly, I'm hoping for the best outcome possible. I purchased one kit with 36cells and 5 packs of seeds. There's no way I could have judged by the weight of those packs how many seeds would be inside, Seriously.

Okay so the seeds are planted and watered, the green house is black, small and set up to do it's job. And now,  6 hours later it has been and still no plants. But wait, it's only been one day. And this will take 14. I can't wait for my little babies to grow. Like a mother just getting a positive test result i'm anxious about what's to come next. A little water some time and alot of sun, and i'm sure my babies will grow just fine. Until then I will continue to check back in with you guys periodically with little updates here and there, and continue to film the stages of growth and soon it will be time to move those little guys from their crib like cell, to an actual bed where they can grow and flourish until they are mature enough to leave root.

( that means be plucked and eaten, just in case you were wondering)
